TOP Things to do in Tokyo, Japan


Tokyo is one of the most interesting places to go to. It is best to visit during the spring to see the cherry blossoms however tourist spots can get too crowded at this time of the year. There are several things to do and places to visit in Tokyo even if you don't get the chance to visit on a spring time . It is a very interesting place indeed. They have lots of crazy and cute ideas, tourist's spots and temples to see and amazing food and games to try. To top it all, people in Japan believe in excellent customer service so no tipping is allowed in this country.




1. Ichiran Ramen

I’d say the best ramen in the world. Everyday people queue to be able to eat in this ramen house. The food can be ordered through a vending machine located right at the front of the store. We love the crazy idea of playing the sound if you order for more. This is a 24-hour ramen house and you can find several branches in Tokyo and Kyoto.


2. Check out Godzilla

You will find this monster in Hotel Gracery in Shinjuku. Just look up when you get there and try not to be scared.




3. Government Building Viewing Deck


This viewing deck is for free. They have the north and south wing deck and you can view Mt. Fuji from here if the sky is not so cloudy. You can also try the Tokyo Skytree but with entrance fee.







4. Sensoji Temple

Sensoji ir Asakusa Kannon Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo. It is a Buddhist temple and one of the most visited temples. You will have to go through the Nakimese-Dori Street before getting to the front gate or entrance. Nakamise-dori is a street full of shops.









5. Tokyo Imperial Palace

Situated at the middle of the city is the residence of the Emperor of Japan. You can view this from the Government Deck and it looks like a forest within a city. The residence is covered with different kind of plants and huge trees.







6. Takeshita Street


A shopping street in Harajuku for fashion and style. You can also find boutiques, restaurants and cafes along the street.







7. Meiji Shrine


A shrine made for Emperor Meiji in Shinjuku. Few steps away from Harajuku’s Takeshita Street. This is another part of the city that is covered with huge trees and shrubs. Be sure not to wear your heels when going to Meiji for it is a wide iris landscaped garden and you will need to really walk going in and out of this temple.









8. Akihabara


Are you a fan of animes? Then you will enjoy Akihabara. From gadgets to anime toys and everything even different flavor of Kit Kats can be found in Akihabara. You can also kill time by playing games. Here you will find Japanese people enjoying the arcades even the senior people are still playing. We found 21 flavors of Kit Kats in this place.







9. Piss Alley in Shinjuku


Omoide Yokocho which means memory lane is the street where people used to piss because it used to be a place for illegal drinking. But it is no longer a place for pissing, it is now famous as Piss Alley where you can find alcoholic drinks, sake small bars, food stalls, grills and restaurants.








10. Shibuya Crossing


Hundreds of thousands of people cross Shibuya every day. This is the busiest street in Tokyo when it comes to shopping, night life for young people and railways stations.







11. Odaiba


This is a man-made island in Tokyo Bay and a hub for several Tokyo attractions like the giant Gundam Unicorn, Tokyo Bridge and replica of the Statue of Liberty in NY.









12. Tsukiji Market


Sushi is one of the famous food in japan and everyday bidding happens in Tsukiji Market to distribute the best kind of meat for your sushi. If you are looking for a good sushi, you will find some in the outer Tsukiji market. They will prepare your sushi right in front of you.






13. Sumo Wrestling Tournament


Tournament happens not all through out of the year but if you happen to visit Tokyo and there is a sumo tournament, you can check them out. It is part of their culture and it is an ancient style of wrestling in Japan.














Transportation in Japan

It is highly suggested to organize the places to visit first before going to Tokyo if you want to cut down the cost of transportation. 1km is approximately 100yen in a subway or metro line, it varies. If you will be using the trains and subways most of the time, you can purchase the unlimited 24, 48 0r 72 hour-pass for all Toei lines, subways and metro lines in Tokyo. Uber and cabs are bit expensive in Tokyo. Most tourists use the trains, subways, metro lines and busses to get from one place to another.
