Embassies require flight reservations to be attached in your application. You don’t need to book your flight right away because some airlines will allow you to reserve and put a hold on flights for 48 – 72 hours.
How to save on flight bookings?
Book your flight once you are approved for the visa. Flight payments are unlikely refundable. Embassies accept flight reservations. But be sure that you are likely to confirm that reservation once you are approved for the visa.
Be aware of flight promos. There are several promos that you can take advantage of. Some airlines give discounts on their flights to Europe during their anniversary celebration. Some give promos because it is off peak season or because of the holiday season. The secret is, know when airlines will drop their prices for flights.
Look for the cheapest flight in a week or in a year. You can also book your flights on a weekday because these flights are usually cheaper than weekend flights. You can also fly out during the off peak season. Remember to book ahead of time!
Get yourself familiar with different flight search engines. This will allow you to compare flight prices of various airlines. This can also help you identify which airlines have promos.
Don’t forget to delete cookies. Every time you go to a website to check the price, have you noticed that the price increases when you tend to check it over and over again? So make it a habit to delete cookies because airline companies will want you to think that you have to book now before flight prices get higher.
Know the airport to fly out. Some airports in Asia offer cheaper flights because they have frequent flights to different places in Europe. KL Airport and Hong Kong Airport have cheaper flights, sometimes.
Sign up for seat sale or deals alert. Your local and international airlines can also send you information when they are on a seat sale promo or if they have deals. There is no harm in getting these info because they may help you save if you want to fly out from another airport.
Use points. You can use your miles or points (either an online membership or miles earned from a credit card) to book flights and/or to upgrade to a business class.
